A Unique Chopstick Stand with a Neat Trick

It’s a long way to go to keep the tips of chopsticks off of the table, but I admire both the craft and the subtlety of this solution. These Levito chopsticks are by Milan-based designer Matteo Ragni. The come in handsome boxes, Maple by the looks of it. The sticks themselves also appear to be Maple, though you’ll notice their butt ends are made of the same contrasting hardwood as their included bases.

When you remove the chopsticks from the base and flip them over, you’ll see that a little hook has been carved into the end of them.

The mortise within the base is apparently stepped. So when the chopsticks are inserted in this orientation, they cantilever upwards at an angle.

No, I don’t think the UX would be good, but yes, I think it’s cool. Sue me.
