Although the European Union (EU) has not yet established an exact date for the end of production of vehicles with gasoline and diesel engines, it is certain that this will happen in the near future and that the future of transport is in vehicles with zero harmful emissions.

Accordingly, car manufacturers are turning more and more to hybrid and electric cars, and the number of such vehicles on European roads is increasing. This trend is also noticeable in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), although the numbers are still small.

According to data provided by the Agency for Identification Documents, Records and Data Exchange (IDDEEA) BiH, in 2021 the number of registered electric and hybrid vehicles was 1,586, and in 2022 the number increased to 2,368, which is an increase of almost 50 percent.

The largest number refers to hybrid gasoline-electric passenger cars, of which 1,561 were registered in 2022, followed by hybrid diesel-electric vehicles, of which there were 348, and purely electric passenger cars, of which 138 were registered in 2022.

They are followed by diesel-electric hybrid passenger SUVs (95) and gasoline-electric hybrid passenger SUVs (40).

According to the available data, 40 buses are registered in BiH, of which eight are hybrid gasoline-electric and 32 are electric, as well as 84 hybrid and electric trucks.
