Like all Armadillo rugs, the two new collections are handcrafted in India and, as the names suggest, are inspired by the experience of the Mediterranean. “Our newest additions are inspired by the idyllic charms of the Mediterranean,” say Armadillo co-founders Jodie Fried and Sally Pottharst. “Promenades for barefoot luxury, Eden and Corsica are handcrafted using a traditional Indo-Nepali weaving technique, then contemporized in color and composition to make the home a true escape.”
Eden takes inspiration from the frescoes that adorn ancient palaces and historic buildings throughout the Mediterranean. Each rug is a solid block of color that makes a graphic impact in any room, and the hand-dyed New Zealand wool fibers refract light from every direction.
Corsica is another iteration of the Mediterranean, evoking the rugged mountain landscape and stylish coastal towns of the French island from which it takes its name. The linear texture of the weave echoes the ripples of gentle ocean waves lapping at the shore, and the solid-dyed New Zealand wool is interspersed with rows of fine Belgian linen to create a shifting, ephemeral play of color that mirrors the way the sun dances on the water’s surface.
The complementary earthy tones of both new collections—which include the evocatively named Abalone, Saltbush, Capri, and Citrine—will usher the idyllic charm of a seaside escape into your home. A subtle natural-colored knotted tassel fringe adds a chic coastal touch.
