louis vuitton presents SS24 hot air balloon show
During Paris Fashion Week, Louis Vuitton unveiled its Women’s Spring-Summer 2024 Show against a captivating hot air balloon-inspired backdrop. Designed to capture the essence of the French Maison’s passion for travel, the installation envisioned by James Chinlund and realized by Penique Productions enveloped the entire Champs-Élysées store in bright orange plastic sheets. This dynamic set design provided a vibrant canvas for Nicolas Ghesquière’s SS24 collection, featuring a blend of graphic stripes and elegant motifs.

For the Louis Vuitton SS24 show, Nicolas Ghesquière commissioned American production designer James Chinlund to create a catwalk that would give the feeling of being in a hot air balloon. Chinlund envisioned an ethereal space cocooned within billowing sails crafted by Penique Productions. In this dreamlike installation, attendees are invited to immerse themselves in the warm glow of summer sunlight that envelops the entire set. In this suspended moment, French artist Zaho de Sagazan fills the space with her unique voice like a narrator.
The latest collection of Louis Vuitton (find more here) embraces a sense of weightlessness, featuring airy garments that conjured the graceful billowing of sails. The outfits on view exuded a spirit of adventure, aligning seamlessly with the hot air balloon concept and Ghesquière’s penchant for infusing Louis Vuitton’s exploration heritage with notions of time travel. This adventurous collection defied conventional eras and dress codes, seamlessly blending silhouettes and wardrobes spanning from the 1950s to the ’80s, with occasional nods to the 19th century. Nicolas Ghesquière plays with layered volumes to create airy silhouettes and tailored ensembles, each embracing a different facet of femininity, enhanced with belted adornments or rhinestone accessories for a nuanced audacious flair.
