US tech giant Amazon has launched two test satellites with the aim of providing Internet service by the end of next year.
A rocket carrying the satellites was launched from a facility in the southern US state of Florida on Friday.
The satellite launches are part of Amazon’s Project Kuiper, which aims to complete global Internet coverage and improve connections.
The company plans to put around 3,200 satellites into orbit about 600 kilometers from Earth by 2029.
Starlink, a high-speed Internet connection service run by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, has already launched more than 5,000 satellites. It provides service in the United States, Europe, Japan and elsewhere.
France’s Eutelsat Group has also launched more than 600 satellites.
Amazon’s entry is expected to intensify competition.
