As the holiday season approaches, India is buckled up for its much anticipated grand celebration, the wedding season. Projections for 2023 indicate a boost in the wedding industry, which is set to collect over Rs 4.25 lakh crore as 35 lakh weddings are planned this year. These figures mark a historic high, as per the Confederation of All India Traders (CIAT) survey. The season’s initial phase kicks off from November 23, until December 15. However, the revelation of this record breaking number of weddings has sparked a frenzy on social media platforms, with users sharing memes and amusing reactions in response to the news.
Following the conclusion of the first phase, the next segment of the wedding season is set to start from mid January, extending through July. The buzz hints that this phase will surpass the previous 35 lakh weddings. As reported by Money Control, a breakdown of wedding expenditures reveals intriguing statistics. Approximately 12 lakh weddings are expected to incur costs of about Rs 10 lakh per ceremony. Additionally, 6 lakh weddings might witness expenses amounting to Rs 25 lakh per ceremony. Moreover, 50,000 weddings are projected to have an expenditure of Rs 50 lakh each, while an additional 50,000 weddings are expected to have a budget of Rs 1 Crore or more.
In a statement, National President of CAIT, B C Bhartia said, “In Delhi alone, more than 3.5 lakh weddings are expected to take place in this season, which is likely to generate a business of about Rs 1 lakh Crore in Delhi itself. Last year, around 32 lakh weddings took place in the same period and expenses were estimated at Rs 3.75 lakh Crore.”

Traders are carefully ensuring all arrangements are up to date to accommodate the surge in customers during the wedding season. According to them, approximately 20 percent of the marriage expenses are allocated to the groom and bride’s side, while the remaining 80 percent goes toward various agencies involved in arranging the ceremonies. Owners of banquet halls, hotels, open lawns, community centres, public parks, farmhouses and numerous other venues are fully prepared to host the grand celebrations.
Apart from traders and venue owners, various professionals in the decoration, DJ, photography, and catering businesses are expected to earn big this year.
