Carvana, an online vendor for buying and selling used cars, will open its newest car vending machine on Wednesday in Mission Valley.

The steel and glass structure, at six stories, stands along Interstate 8 at 1545 Camino Del Rio South and has a 19-vehicle capacity.

Customers may pick up their vehicle at the San Diego vending machine or have it delivered.

When customers opt for a vending machine experience, they select and purchase a vehicle from Carvana.com and schedule a time for pick up. Upon their arrival at the tower, they are greeted by a “customer advocate” and given a commemorative, oversized Carvana coin to activate the automated vending process.

Customers then get a front-row seat to watch their vehicle descend through the brightly lit vending structure from the heart of the all-glass tower.

This is Carvana’s second car vending machine in the region – the other one is in Escondido – its fifth in California and its 39th in the U.S. Location hours are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Sunday.

Mike Fryer, Carvana’s market operations manager, said the company has “been looking forward to expanding our local presence ever since” the North County opening in 2022.

“This unique site sits right in the heart of Mission Valley and is conveniently accessible to our many local customers while also boasting plenty of space to support our local team and operations,” Fryer said. “We are proud to join the San Diego skyline and excited to create even more convenient and memorable experiences for our customers in the area.”
