Google’s ‘short-term test’ will limit some users’ access to California news – The Logic


In a blog post from Google vice-president of news partnerships Jaffer Zaidi, the tech giant said the move is a response to the California Journalism Preservation Act (CJPA), which if passed would compel Big Tech platforms to pay for news. The company is also pausing investments and partnerships with California news outlets as well as the Google News Showcase and planned expansions of the Google News Initiative in the state, according to Zaidi.
