transformable workspace can be shifted along two axes

Naoshi Kondo Studio has designed SHAKAIKA! KYOTO office, a transformable workspace within a commercial building in Kyoto, Japan. The L-shaped interior offers a versatile space accommodating a photography studio, a workspace, and a conference room. The design’s central feature is a mobile reception room that also serves as a conference area. This lightweight frame, finished with dark blue carpet and light blue walls, can be shifted along two axes, adding flexibility to the space.

Naoshi Kondo studio composes a dynamic work setting

In its reception mode, the area around the corner extends the office with storage shelving and a modular conference table. The adaptable mechanism supports efficient space utilization and movement, beneficial for users in a dynamic work setting. When the reception space slides to the right, it reveals a ‘white box’ space behind the glass frontage. Sliding the reception back around the corner maximizes the length of the work environment.

Cleverly split wall mirrors enhance the sense of a jigsaw puzzle slotting into place. Naoshi Kondo Studio‘s practical approach to transformable space expands the potential of an awkward layout while maintaining space, privacy, and a clean presentation.
