Week of October 14 Morning News Ratings: All Three Morning Shows See Total Viewer Declines

For the fourth week in a row, ABC News’ Good Morning America remained America’s No. 1 morning show in total viewers. GMA continued to build on its lead over NBC News’ Today with 166,000 total viewers separating the two morning shows for the week of October 14.

Despite that piece of good news, all three morning shows saw week-to-week total viewer declines. GMA and CBS News’ CBS Mornings were the only programs to see gains in the Adults 25-54 demo.

NOTE: GMA was retitled on Monday (10/14/24) to GMA-ABC due to Indigenous Peoples Day. This retitled telecast is excluded from the weekly and season averages. ABC’s weekly averages are based on four days (Tuesday – Friday).

According to live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen, GMA averaged 2.708 million total viewers and 505,000 A25-54 viewers for the week. It was down -4% in the former category, but grew +2% in the latter compared to the previous week. Looking at its performance alongside the same week in 2023 (the week of Oct. 16), GMA was down -8% in total viewers and -18% in the demo.

Today was the top show in the demo with 662,000 viewers and second in total viewers with 2.542 million viewers for the week of Oct. 14. That translates to week-to-week drops of -8% in the demo and -4% in total viewers—the only morning show to see drops in both measured categories. Year-to-year, Today was down by -5% in total viewers and -6% in the demo.

CBS Mornings saw 1.918 million total viewers and 379,000 viewers in the demo for a dip of -2% in the former category and a +2% bump in the latter. Compared to the same period in 2023, CBS Mornings was down in total viewers and the A25-54 demo by -14% and -19%, respectively.
