The Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology (FMIST) has signed a groundbreaking memorandum of understanding (MOU) with DAIMLAS Corp, a leading U.S.-based technology firm.
This historic partnership aims to harness cutting-edge technologies to drive economic growth, foster innovation and strengthen global collaboration in Nigeria’s science and technology sector.
At the signing ceremony in Abuja, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji emphasised the transformative potential of this agreement. The collaboration aligns with Nigeria’s 2017–2030 Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Roadmap, a strategic framework positioning science and technology as pivotal to national development.
Key Features of the Partnership include
- AI-Powered Platform: DAIMLAS Corp will develop an advanced platform to aggregate, organise and verify STI resources and stakeholders across Nigeria.
- State-Level Integration: The platform will provide tailored pathways for state governments to align with national STI goals.
- Global Collaboration: It will connect Nigerians in the diaspora with local stakeholders, fostering international partnerships, knowledge sharing and investment opportunities.
Nnaji hailed the initiative as a prime example of public-private collaboration accelerating development. “By leveraging artificial intelligence, we are creating a system that empowers our states, attracts global investments, and establishes Nigeria as a leader in innovation across Africa and the world,” he remarked.
A standout feature of this partnership is its funding structure. The DAIMLAS platform will be provided to the ministry at no cost, with financing secured through sponsorships, grants, and private investments. This innovative funding model underscores the value of strategic partnerships in achieving national goals.
Nnaji called on all stakeholders to support the initiative, emphasising its potential to transform Nigeria’s STI sector into a globally competitive ecosystem. “This platform is not just a tool; it is a gateway to a future where innovation and technology drive Nigeria’s prosperity,” he stated.
CEO of DAIMLAS Corp, Joseph Wehbe expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, noting, “We are honoured to partner with FMIST to build a platform that will serve as a cornerstone for Nigeria’s scientific and technological advancements. The platform is set to launch within eight weeks, accompanied by nationwide outreach efforts to engage stakeholders. With its focus on innovation, alignment, and international cooperation, this partnership is poised to redefine Nigeria’s approach to science, technology and innovation, driving lasting progress in the sector.
