Threads Rolls Out Image Tagging

Here’s a simple, but handy Threads update.

Today, Threads has launched profile tagging for photos in the app.

As per this example, now you can add tags to images shared in the app, so you can link through to other profiles relevant to the photo you’re posting.

As explained by Threads:

On mobile, tap on the [person] icon at the bottom left of a photo in the composer, then on the photo. Search for a profile to tag or choose one from the menu.”

Yeah, it’s straightforward tagging, which you’re undoubtedly already familiar with from most other apps. As such, it’s really just another example of Threads catching up on generic functionality, but it is worth noting, as another means to maximize your engagement and interaction in the app.

That could help to facilitate influencer collaborations, brand mentions, affiliate promotions, etc. Or it could just be to tag your friends in weird AI generated images.

However you choose to use it, you now have the option, which is another small step towards bringing Threads into parity with Twitter, and other social apps.

Note that you can’t tag video of GIF uploads, you can only tag still image attachments at this stage. You also can’t view tags on desktop as yet.

Also, you can opt out of being tagged in images if you choose:

“Go to Settings > Privacy > Tags and mentions, then choose to “Allow Tags From” everyone, profiles you follow, or no one.

One small step for Threads, one giant leap for trolls.
