Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A group of Isla Mujeres primary and secondary students were given Internet safety talks by Cyber Police. Officers from the Cyber Police Unit talked to the young students about online safety and awareness.
Approximately 100 young students from the Francisco Hernández de Córdoba school attended the three sessions given by police. According to the Secretary of Citizen Security (SSC), the objective was to inform kids on the risks of surfing the Internet.
“With the objective of informing and raising awareness about the risks of surfing the Internet and the use of social networks, three talks were held focused on the topics “My Digital Self” and “Safe Internet”, in which 100 students from the Francisco Hernández de Córdoba school, located in the municipality of Isla Mujeres, participated in the activity,” the SSC said.
“During the session, practical examples were given that were reinforced with educational videos. In this way, safe and responsible practices were promoted to protect their privacy as well as their online security.
“Likewise, topics were addressed such as the importance of using secure passwords, the activation of two-step verification and avoiding access to social networks from public or unsafe devices.
“Kids were also taught about detecting and preventing current risks on the network, such as phishing or cyberbullying. These actions reinforce the commitment of the Government of Quintana Roo and the State Police to prevent digital violence and promote safe and responsible use of cyberspace among the new generations.”
