Ag transportation, river infrastructure a concern for Wisconsin farmer

A Wisconsin crop farmer says transportation issues have been one of his biggest concerns this year.
“Living in west-central Wisconsin, we’re blessed to have the fifth coast of the nation with the Mississippi River,” Shane Goplin said.
Goplin tells Brownfield infrastructure improvements are critically needed. “It’s a huge undertaking. The locks and dams were made in three to six years nearly 100 years ago, but now we’re talking about Lock 25 taking 25 years to complete.”
Goplin says the Mississippi River is a key ag transportation corridor for Wisconsin growers. “I live by Lock 5. There’s problems we’ve got and we need to be keeping up with the infrastructure maintenance and improvement on inland waterways.”
He spoke to Brownfield at the 2025 Commodity Classic.
