BBC, ITV and Freeview can't match this totally new way to watch TV from Channel 4

There’s a more interactive way to tune into your favourite shows thanks to a big launch from Channel 4. The popular telly provider has just confirmed the release of a brand new app that’s been built especially for Apple’s futuristic Vision Pro headset. Once downloaded and installed on the recently released wearable, viewers can settle down for a night of entertainment with shows such as Location, Location, Location, The Great British Bake Off, Married at First Sight and Grand Designs all viewable on a giant virtual screen that hovers in their physical surroundings.

To make things feel even more immersive, the app can even transport the user to the Taskmaster set where users will feel like they are actually sitting in the iconic red room with the flock wallpaper, chandeliers, and throne.

Channel 4 says that its new Taskmaster environment highlights its ambition to build new experiences to engage and reach viewers. If you love this popular comedy show it’s worth trying out.

Speaking about the update Grace Boswood, Director of Technology & Distribution, Channel 4, said: “The new Channel 4 Apple Vision Pro app builds on our heritage of viewer innovation, be that the first broadcaster in the world to offer a TV-based on-demand service, or the first PSB to launch an HD channel in the UK.”

“The app also enables us to create even more viewer delight in one of our most-cherished shows, Taskmaster, moving it from the TV to the physical world. As we transition to become a public service streamer, we’re constantly exploring new ways to entertain viewers and engage advertisers through technology which creates remarkable experiences.”

Although you can watch shows from iPlayer and ITV on Vision Pro, Channel 4 is the first to launch a fully dedicated app.

Other platforms that offer something similar include the brilliant Disney+ Vision Pro app and fully immersive IMAX platform. Apple has also introduced more fully immersive content via its Apple TV+ with a movie called Submerged the to go live.

As Apple explains, “This immersive fiction thriller, available to Apple Vision Pro users around the world for free, invites viewers onto a WWII-era submarine and follows its crew as they wrestle to combat a harrowing attack. This adrenaline-pumping thrill ride showcases the unique storytelling experiences made possible by Apple Immersive Video.”

Hopefully, more UK providers will follow soon although with the device costing over £3,400 it’s still pretty niche and not yet a mass-market product.
