The air quality in Delhi has now reached the ‘severe plus’ stage on the index, exposing citizens to severe health risks. According to real-time data, the current air quality index (AQI) stands at a staggering 470 this morning, nearly 20 times higher than the World Health Organization’s (WHO) recommended limit. In the midst of this, a recent video from the national capital has emerged online, showing Delhiites going for a jog amidst the thick fog at around 7:00 a.m., prompting questions about their motivations in such polluted air.
Here’s the Video:
Following the release of a video by ANI, depicting residents jogging in smog so thick it’s almost invisible at Kartavya Path, people couldn’t resist sharing their two cents. One user couldn’t help but wonder, “Log jogging kar rhe h aisi hawa me?? Fitness ke liye??” Another expressed their exasperation, saying, “Who are these people exercising in this smog? I’m not able to exercise inside my room with the air purifier on full blast and the AC on?”

A third, with a touch of sarcasm, chimed in, “So health conscious that they have to run in this severe pollution. Kaha se aate hai ye log.”
Meanwhile, a local runner revealed, “This situation repeats itself every year. The Central Government blames the Delhi Government, and the Delhi Government blames the Central Government… It’s high time the government takes action, or else people in Delhi are essentially shortening their lives due to this perilous situation.”
Setting aside the humour, the situation is so dire that the ICC has consulted renowned pulmonologist Randeep Guleria to ensure that the pollution doesn’t impact the Monday (November 6) match. Currently, the BAN vs SL match is scheduled to proceed, but concerns about the event running without interruption persist. The ICC has implemented measures to address the issue, with air purifiers installed in the dressing room and water sprinklers being used in the stadium area. The ICC spokesperson, speaking to PTI, confirmed these steps and stated that the governing body is following Guleria’s recommendations.
