Floating in the pool

There’s utter serenity in quietly floating in a swimming pool. Face up, body almost submerged barring the face and toes, making micro moves to keep floating, this is true detachment from the world that even the Buddha would envy.

This stillness, amplified by the artificial clarity of the water, creates a bed of calm. As you suspend in water, you suspend in time.

As you let your body yield to the water’s gentle pushes and pulls, the pool becomes a haven of solitude. Through the frame of your view, you see sky, while you hear the ‘distant’ echo of pressing water. Your ears are submerged, muffling external noises into a distant hum, and all you hear is the rhythm of your own breath.

Eyes closed, or gazing at the pristine blue expanse above, this is as close to levitation you’ll come to. Simplicity of the experience sharpens the focus on the present moment.

There are no waves to navigate, no distractions to resist – just you, the water, and the blue or grey square or rectangle of the sky above. You are in your own dream, floating, drifting, breathing.
