GM's Chinese Baojun Brand Launches Xiang Jing Flagship Sedan

Chinese automaker Baojun has unveiled its newest model, the Xiang Jing (translated as: Enjoy Territory), which is being touted as the company’s “first intelligent flagship sedan”. The vehicle will be available with both plug-in hybrid and electric powertrains, offering a range of options for customers. While the Baojun brand is the result of a joint venture between General Motors and Chinese state-owned SAIC Motor, the Xiang Jing is only destined to be available as an affordable alternative to existing GM brands in China.

Baoju’s New Flagship

As a flagship model, Baojun describes the vehicle as a mainstream entry that aims to be both aspirational and comfortable, catering to “the diverse needs of urban commuters, from young families to elites, for high-quality travel.” With a length of 197 inches and a wheelbase of 114.2 inches, the Xiang Jing is longer than the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. It measures 74.8 inches wide, so a little over an inch wider than the Camry or Accord.

All-Electric Or Hybrid Power

While details are scarce, it is expected that the electric variant of the Xiang Jing will come equipped with a yet-unspecified kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and a 249-horsepower electric motor. The plug-in hybrid variant, on the other hand, will feature a smaller lithium iron phosphate battery with a China Light Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) range of 63 miles on electric power, paired with Baojun’s turbocharged 1.5-liter engine producing 141 hp.

This represents Baojun’s belief that every user should appreciate the joy of life facilitated by the brand’s technology advances.” Then the Jing (or territory) part of the name “symbolizes Baojun’s commitment to walk hand in hand with progressive individuals to create an enhanced quality of life.” GM’s press release claims that production of the first Xiang Jing at its LIM plant in Liuzhou, Guangxi, was also the 800,000th new energy vehicle built by the joint venture in 2024.
