Greenwood Connections' profit margin is 'very strong,' says auditor – Park Rapids Enterprise

The Menahga City Council held a brief, joint meeting with the Greenwood Connections Board to review the facility’s 2023 audit.

Jessica Roerick, a senior audit manager with Eide Bailly LLP, presented the audit.

Roerick said the operating margin is 8.4% compared to 6.7% in 2022. “So consistent, very strong operating margin,” she said.

Overall revenues in excess of expenses was $1.9 million compared to $700,000 in the prior year. Total profit margin is a “very strong” 11.3%, she said.

Roerick noted that staffing has been an issue for many nursing facilities since the pandemic, but GWC hasn’t had to hire traveling nurses, “which is a huge benefit.”

In other business, the council did this:

  • Accepted the quote of $54,690 from ProContractors of Menahga to replace the maintenance shop roof.
  • Accepted Howard’s Driveway Inc. of Menahga’s bid of $49,900 to replace Woodside Manor’s north parking lot.
  • Accepted Graham Refrigeration Inc. of Menahga’s bid of $13,668 for six mini-split, air-conditioning units at the city nursing home.
  • Board consensus was to recycle tires at Wadena Hide and Fur. Public Works Director Ron Yliniemi said the cost is $300 per ton. He estimated the city has three to four tons, roughly costing between $1,350 and $1,500 to recycle.
  • Menahga Police Chief Amy Lane reported 173 calls between May 22 and June 18, including one citation for disorderly conduct and six for speeding. One contempt of court was sent to the Wadena County Attorney. Lane said she’s still working on two or three nuisance properties from last year. She also reported receiving a $5,000 donation from Todd-Wadena Electric Cooperative for a computer in one of the squad cars.
  • Approved the sale of two excess 9mm firearms from the police department to the city of Bagley, at $1,500 each.
  • Accepted $540 in donation to the Sounds of Spirit Lake, including $500 from West Central Telephone Association.
