In recent times, Indian companies have been strengthening their foothold in the USA, actively competing for H1B visas. Data released by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services shows that Indian tech companies secured 20 per cent of all H1B visas issued.

According to the recently released data, Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) emerged as the top recipients of H1B visas.

Data from the US Immigration Department states that of the 1.3 lakh H1B visas issued to various employers between April and September 2024, approximately 24,766 went to companies of Indian origin. Infosys led the way with 8,140 beneficiaries, followed by TCS with 5,274 and HCL America with 2,953.

Which company got the most H1B visas?

Amazon.com Services LLC, an American company, received the highest number of US visas, obtaining 9,265 H1B visas. The Indian company, Infosys, secured the second position, while Cognizant ranked third with 6,321 visas. Although Cognizant was founded in Chennai, its headquarters is now located in New Jersey, USA.

Indian Companies Benefit from H1B Visa Programme

The H1B visa programme permits companies to temporarily employ foreign professionals in specialised roles. India’s technology companies have particularly benefited from this programme.

Major Indian IT service companies such as Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Wipro, and HCL Technologies have consistently ranked among the top employers of H1B visa holders. However, in a recent period, Wipro received 1,634 visas, placing them at the lower end of the spectrum, while Tech Mahindra obtained 1,199 H1B visas during the same timeframe.

Elon Musk has praised the visa programme

Industrialist Elon Musk’s Tesla has been a beneficiary of the H1B visa programme. He has also praised this programme, publicly supporting the technology industry’s dependence on foreign professionals.

Musk has spoken about the need to welcome people from all backgrounds who can contribute to America with their hard work. US President-elect Donald Trump has also supported Musk, making it likely that this visa programme will expand further in future.
