kaebon’s featherweight electric boat ‘EB EINS’ fits on a car roof for a portable watercraft

Kaebon’s EB eins weighs 89 kilos

Munich-based company Kaebon has devised a portable electric boat that can fit on a car’s roof, backed by its clean-looking design that combines sport and style. The design team uses ultra-light carbon composite materials around EB EINS, helping the watercraft achieve a curb weight of only 89 kilos. It is light enough to be easily slipped onto a car roof and, as the company claims, compact enough to be stowed in the garden or garage when not in use.

‘We consistently rely on carbon fiber and innovative production processes. Thanks to its exceptionally low weight, the EB EINS requires less engine and battery power compared to other boats for a complete and quiet gliding experience with long range,’ says Kaebon. The carbon fiber layers of the electric boat undergo a vacuum tempering process which ensures a lightweight, shear-resistant, and load-bearing element for the vehicle.

‘The high-tech foam we use is ideal for applications that are subject to regular fatigue, or impact loads. Its features include being consistently high quality, excellent adhesion and impact strength, chemical resistance, refraining water absorption, and good thermal and acoustic insulation,’ adds Kaebon. The sandwiched and compressed foam inside the carbon-fiber body reduces the overall load of the boat, making it lightweight enough to be stowed by vehicles.

creating a sporty glider and racer

In close collaboration with the Munich design firm Muniq Design, Kaebon has developed a flawlessly-formed sporty design for EB EINS with the intention of creating a sporty glider and racer. The overall aesthetics unites all visual and technical components in harmony, resulting in clarity and durability that suit EB EINS’ shape well. The EB EINS is now offered in visible carbon for an all-around athletic appeal.

‘With the EB EINS, Kaebon has managed to convert the old design of the classic boats as simply as possible into a modern, elegant design language,’ says Kaebon. ‘The EB EINS was designed based on the classic design of boats from the 1920s, when the engines were still so heavy that they had to be placed in the middle of the boat. The choice of positioning in the rear area of the boat based on this enables the special driving experience that makes the EB EINS unique in its use.’

While the sleek design of the electric boat may catch attention, the design team emphasizes that the elegant contours also ensure minimum resistance above and below water. The aerodynamic and aquadynamic optimization improves the performance results and helps to save the boat’s drive energy. The four-person seating arrangement can be customized, and at full charge, EB EINS can run for 45 minutes straight.
