Nestlé fans urged to stock up on favourite chocolate before it’s discontinued this summer

From Smarties to Milkybar, Yorkie and Aero, confectionery giant Nestlé is responsible for so many beloved sweet treats that, over the years, have become British classics.

But now, the future of one fan-favourite has grown dark – as the brand has confirmed that the KitKat Vegan will soon be a memory of the past.

Hitting shelves back in 2021, the chocolate bar was one of the first big names to provide a fully vegan option for its plant-based devotees.

Despite the hype though, the global demand for the KitKat Vegan has sadly reduced over time – and the treat will be disappearing from shelves altogether.

‘We know that KitKat Vegan has been popular for those looking for dairy or vegan alternatives. Unfortunately, global demand has been reducing to the point that production was making manufacturing more and more complex and we have now made the difficult decision to discontinue the product,’ a spokesperson for Nestlé said.

It’s thought that the brand will instead be focusing on ‘classic chocolate’ for the foreseeable future, as it’s proved more popular with consumers.

The brand acknowledged that the move would cause ‘some disappointment’ but continued to share that fans of the vegan product in the UK and Ireland still had a chance to stock up on them.

‘It will still be available in the UK and Ireland until the summer,’ they added.

So the good news is, that while the plant-based treat is being axed, it’s not disappearing immediately.

Naturally, many Nestlé fans are disappointed by the news.

‘Nah the vegan KitKat is being discontinued?! Why are we going backwards,’ asked @itsascreamsid on X, formerly Twitter, while @catgirldjh labelled the news ‘devastating.’

‘I love these, [and] so do my kids! Maybe if they’d sold them in multi-pack and bright the price down, and put them next to the regular KitKats instead of only in the free from aisle,’ Lana Black added in a Facebook comment.

Hannah Edwards claimed the situation is only getting ‘harder’ for vegans ‘as the years go on,’ as Naomi Jacqueline Cleal noted that the plant-based KitKat was in her ‘top three most bought items’ at Tesco in 2024.

‘I am singlehandedly supporting them,’ she added, while Diane Brown labelled the decision ‘cruel.’

It’s not all bad news for Nestlé fans, though. This week, the brand confirmed a brand-new KitKat sharing bar in three different flavours – including a cult favourite that’s already been tried and tested on both the regular bar and the KitKat Chunky.

There are three options to choose from, including double chocolate, with a cocoa-flavoured filling, topped with milk and dark chocolate marbled swirls.

Next is a salted caramel option that also has a creamy filling, paired with thick caramel flavour milk chocolate and marbled swirls, and the third is hazelnut which will similarly be coated with milk and dark chocolate.

And if that weren’t enough, chocolate fans were also treated to the return of an iconic 90s treat, as Mars Wrigley announced the comeback of Milky Way Crispy Rolls.

Mars admitted they made ‘a mistake’ in axing the sweet treat, so will be bringing back what social media users dubbed ‘god’s gift’ and the ‘best chocolate bar ever’.

For those who aren’t familiar with the product, Milky Way Crispy Rolls are a milk chocolate covered wafer biscuit finger, with a lightly whipped filling inside.

And for the very first time, Mars will also be adding two new Crispy Roll flavours to the line-up, including Twix Crispy Rolls and Bounty Crispy Rolls.

You’ll be able to buy all three in supermarkets from February 1.
