New £726million theme park dubbed ‘Disneylandnya’ to open on beach island

PLANS are underway to open a huge new theme park in Bali in the coming years.

First announced back in 2021, construction on the long-awaited Paramount Theme Park reportedly began in August 2023.

Called Taman Kerti Bali Semesta (Universal Park & Gardens Bali in English), the theme park will be located on the southwestern side of Bali.

The theme park is slated to span 600 hectares of land and will feature a range of rides and attractions based on films and TV shows created by Paramount Pictures.

This is because the company behind the theme park signed an agreement with Paramount Pictures back in 2022.

A spokesperson from Taman Kerti Bali Semesta previously said: “We will tap into a library of over 1,000 films and use brands and characters that will appeal to people of all ages.”

Other attractions at the Indonesian theme park could draw on Nickelodeon characters, such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Even though the theme park will feature a host of characters from Paramount Pictures, it has been nicknamed Disneylandnya by locals.

Despite being in the works for a number of years, not much is known about what will feature in the theme park.

Computer-generated images of the theme park show a large body of water that’s surrounded by tall buildings.

In the top right of the image, there is a visible rollercoaster that wraps around a mountain.

The construction of the park is happening alongside other huge development projects in Bali, including the building of a new toll road.

The last update was issued in 2023.

It is rumoured to be opening in 2026 although little else has been reported snice last year.

Elsewhere in the world, Europe is getting two new theme parks later this year.

Both Hossoland in Poland and Bommelwereld in the Netherlands will compete against European theme park giants like Disneyland Paris, Europa Park and Efteling when they open.

Plans for Hossoland were first announced back in 2017.

When it opens, the new theme park will have 50 rides and attractions spread across four themed lands.

Meanwhile, Bommelwereld is based on the Dutch comic book characters Tom Poes and Ollie B. Bommel (Tom Puss and Oliver B. Bumble).

The indoor theme park will feature more than 18 attractions when its doors open.

Use these tips on your next theme park trip

Next time you visit a theme park, you may want to use our top tips to make the most of your adrenaline-inducing day out.

  1. Go to the back of the theme park first. Rides at the front will have the longest queues as soon as it opens.
  2. Go on water rides in the middle of the day in the summer – this will cool you off when the sun is at its hottest.
  3. Download the park’s app to track which rides have the shortest queues.
  4. Visit on your birthday, as some parks give out “birthday badges” that can get you freebies.
  5. If it rains, contact the park. Depending on how much it rained, you may get a free ticket to return.
