MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Senator Tammy Baldwin’s Office announced Friday that Wisconsinites will have more access to high speed internet after $13.2 million in funding was awarded to expand the state’s broadband.
The funding comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and is a step towards implementing Wisconsin’s mission of closing the digital divide by making internet more accessible and equitable.
Wisconsin lawmakers have been working to improve their internet access for two years, beginning with funding awarded in October 2022 to develop the state’s Digital Equity Plan.
“We know that having access to reliable, high-speed internet is necessary for how we work, learn, and stay connected in today’s day and age, and I’m proud we’ve been able to make significant investments to ensure more than 410,000 homes and businesses will have new or improved high-speed internet,” said Governor Evers.
