New tech to boost border security: SAPU – SABC News

Police union, SAPU, says the use of new technology to curb illegal border crossings will also enhance efficiencies at points of entry. The Border Management Authority (BMA) unveiled four high-tech drones and 40 cameras to be deployed across various points of entry this Easter period.

SAPU spokesperson Lesiba Thobakgale says more such resources are needed to improve the country’s security.

“The world of work keeps evolving, and in order to have border security and to deal with immigration at our borders, Border Management Authority needed that technology. And we also acknowledge that the technology is not enough. There is still more that needs to be done. They need to really acquire more technology in order for them to be even more efficient and also to ensure border security. So, we are making a call to National Treasury that they must make funds available through budget to make sure that the Border Management Authority is fully equipped, from the human capital to physical resources,” Thobakgale adds.
