Issey Miyake Launches ‘pleats please’ NYC Flagship in Nolita
Pleats Please Issey Miyake is marking a new chapter in New York City with the opening of its flagship store in Nolita. Found in one of the city’s most desirable shopping neighborhoods, the new location will offer a fresh retail experience beginning December 12th. The project is located on the ground floor of Tadao Ando‘s first New York City building (see designboom’s coverage here), this 2,224-square-foot space is designed by Japanese firm MOMENT and takes shape with the distinctive lightness that defines the brand.
The new Pleats Please store is located at 14 Kenmare Street, at the corner of Elizabeth Street, in the heart of Nolita, a central location. This area of Manhattan is known for its boutique shops, galleries, and trendy cafés, making it a fitting setting for a brand with a modern, industrial flair. The neighborhood’s raw energy reflects the spirit of the brand.

Designed by the Japanese architecture firm MOMENT, the flagship store incorporates a sharp, geometric grid system that runs through the space. The design emphasizes the interplay of light, materials, and texture. Steel-plated lighting rails are suspended from the ceiling, casting a sleek, industrial glow. The walls, made from white molded resin, mimic the brand’s iconic pleating process, creating a tactile connection to the clothing on display. Concrete floors and walls balance the polished, glossy surfaces of the furniture, including white tabletops and rail structures that showcase the brand’s innovative collections.
To celebrate its grand opening, the Pleats Please Issey Miyake flagship will feature an exclusive collection titled ‘SOIL & LEAF.’ This range of pleated tops, skirts, and dresses will be available for the first time at the new location. As the brand describes it, the space captures the essence of Pleats Please, reflecting the joy and lightness of the garments within, while offering a curation of organic and industrial elements.
