With firefighters and law enforcement officers saluting and other mourners waving American flags, a procession escorted the two Cal Fire firefighters who died in a collision of two helicopters over a brush fire in Cabazon on Sunday to a mortuary.
The approximate 10-mile procession began at the Riverside County Coroner’s Office on Redlands Avenue in Perris and concluded at Evans Brown Mortuary on Encanto Drive in Perris.
The procession began around 12:45 p.m. and took the bodies of Assistant Chief Josh Bischof and Capt. Tim Rodriguez along Redlands Avenue, Ellis Avenue, Case Road, Murrieta Road, Ethanac Road and Encanto Drive.
Bischof, Rodriguez and Air Shasta pilot Tony Sousa died in the crash of their Bell spotting helicopter when it collided with a Skycrane helicopter fighting the Broadway fire. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
