Rapid Trip 2050 outlines the future of transportation in Rapid City – KOTA

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Rapid Trip 2050 is an urban development plan designed to keep traffic flowing as Rapid City’s population continues to grow.

“Every 5 years, we produce a long-term transportation plan,” said Rapid City Community Development Long-Range Planning Manager Kip Harrington. “Now known as the metropolitan transportation plan, it’s federally required for a community of our size.”

Harrington, his team, and engineering consultants with HDR presented their plans at Rapid City Hall Thursday. The group is looking for feedback from commuters on what could be done better.

The plan considers more than just car traffic.

“We call it multi-modal transportation planning,” Harrington explained. “So, we want to service all those people whether you drive, walk, bike, take the bus, ride a scooter.”

Harrington mentioned his team will continuously consider the feedback they receive, and comments can be made on the Rapid Trip 2050 website.
