Game publisher Shiro Games partners with developer FakeFish for the upcoming release of survival crafting game Frostrail.
The first-person shooter, open-world game was revealed today at the Triple-i Initiative Showcase 2025 and it will arrive on Steam Early Access for Windows PC in 2026.
The two firms joined forces in 2023 to collaborate on their latest endeavor that will immerse players in a dynamic adventure. Shiro Games through its publishing label Shiro Unlimited continues to pursue its goal of empowering talented teams to create innovative projects, bringing the best development expertise from both parties together for Frostrail.
Shiro previously published Northgard, Wartales and Dune: Spice Wars. FakeFish previously made the survival game, which sold more than three million copies.
“Following the success of Barotrauma, we are eager to use our experience to create a new project that marries the intense, high-stakes nature of the survival and first-person shooter genres with the exploratory and intricate qualities that we all love in crafting games,” said Aku Jauhianen, CEO of FakeFish, in a statement. “Shiro Games brings a wealth of wisdom and different perspectives that have been and will continue to be valuable in the development of our latest endeavor.”

“Our team at Shiro has maintained a long track record of developing and publishing successful titles praised for their quality and enjoyable experiences,” said Nicolas Cannasse, CEO, Shiro Games, in a statement. “We have imminently enjoyed partnering with the incredible talents at FakeFish to combine our skills and make Frostrail a thrilling undertaking for players.”
Players will endure a desolate post-apocalyptic world with arctic temperatures, unspeakable horrors, and one life-sustaining locomotive. Scavenge for vital resources to craft essential parts and upgrade the convoy. The players can band together with other survivors in four-person online co-op for a greater chance against both natural and unnatural forces, slaying abominations known as Revenants in intense FPS battles.
Frostrail will launch on Steam Early Access for Windows PC in 2026 with English, Spanish, French, German, Russian, Polish, Portuguese – Brazil, and Simplified Chinese language support.

Shiro Unlimited, the publishing arm of independent game development studio Shiro Games, was created by video game veterans Sebastien Vidal and Nicolas Cannasse to bring new innovative games to life. Based in Bordeaux, France, the studio released its first project Evoland in 2013 and its acclaimed sequel Evoland 2 in 2015.
FakeFish, based in Turku, Finland, was established in 2014 by five university friends and has since grown to an independent studio of 30 people. Their first game, the critically acclaimed Barotrauma, has sold more than 3 million copies since its initial launch in 2019 and helped shape the studio’s philosophy of delivering memorable experiences and creating a transparent and open community for both developers and players alike.
