The beginning of December means getting out the tree, tucking into a chocolate advent calendar, booking that ice skating session and, most importantly, posting on social media to show off your music taste when Spotify Wrapped finally drops.
Spotify Wrapped is the popular music streaming app’s end of year extravaganza that delivers each and every user a rundown of their music listening stats for the last 11 months, from most listened song and artist to favourite genres and more.
It’s only 11 months as it counts from January until around the start of December, when it usually comes out.
Spotify usually breaks down your stats in new and interesting ways each year to keep it fresh. The event will probably take over your internet feeds when it comes out – so when is that?
Looking back at previous years, Spotify Wrapped usually appears in the app on a Wednesday at the end of November or beginning of December. Here’s when it was released in the last three years:
- Saturday 1 December 2021
- Wednesday 30 November 2022
- Wednesday 29 November 2023
Because 2024 is a leap year, it’s 4 December that falls on a Wednesday this year, so it seems very possible that Spotify Wrapped will come out on Wednesday 4 December 2024, which is tomorrow. Keep your eyes glued to your Spotify app for iPhone or Android.
Spotify has also begun teasing Wrapped on its official social media feeds, posting the below to X on 27 November:
The banner photo on Spotify’s X account also now reads “Your Wrapped coming soon”.
The company also put out a blog post warning users they should make sure they are running the latest version of the Spotify app in order to receive and view Spotify Wrapped.
There are usually a few surprises for Spotify fans in Wrapped, like if you appear in the top few percent of listeners dedicated to certain artists. Many Taylor Swift fans took to socials in 2023 to try and prove they were in the top 0.1 percent of her biggest admirers worldwide when it comes to listens.
If you don’t use Spotify to listen to your favourite jams then we’re afraid you’re going to feel a little left out if Wrapped comes out this week. Apple Music, Deezer, YouTube Music and other music streaming platforms also give their paying users a breakdown of their year in music, but none of them are as much of an online event as Spotify Wrapped.
