Startups to be part of G20 meet for first time – Times of India

Nagpur: The upcoming G20 meeting in the city would also have participation of startups, a first in its history, according to Dr Ravi Vairagade, who is a part of the Maharashtra team headed by Dr Ajit Gopchade. Well known child specialist Dr Vinky Rughwani is another member from the city on this panel.
Speaking to TOI, Vairagade said the event to be held in the city on March 20 and 21 would support further development of the ecosystem for the startups.
“The theme of the meeting in the city would be ‘Research Innovation Initiative Gathering’. The Pune meeting theme was infrastructure while Thiruvananthapuram was health. Few years ago, India hardly had 200 startups which has now shot over 80,000, and there are many unicorns as well. The event would try to push the startups further during the G20 meeting here, which would be attended by the delegates from across the world,” he said.
According to him, the Startup-20 Engagement Group would create a global narrative for supporting them and act as a bridge to connect them with the corporates, investors and other stakeholders.
Vairagade said Nagpur would be one of the 50 cities where meetings would take place during one year of India’s presidency. “The event would have 32 different subjects which will be discussed in detail. It includes infrastructure, finance, education and health. The theme of India’s G20 presidency is ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ which means one earth, one family and one future. It closely lies with’ LiFE (Lifestyle for environment)’.”
Vairagade, a homeopath doctor, said that it has also been decided to work on the climate crisis during India’s presidency of the summit. “Just like with vaccines during the Covid-19 pandemic, India can show the way to the world in the area of climate change. The concept of LiFE is to change the lifestyle to save the world from such a crisis,” Vairagade said.
The Maharashtra G20 team, under Dr Gopchade, would be holding a conference of all homoeopathy doctors from India on March 19 to discuss various issues including advances in their field. “In comparison to other countries, we are better equipped to offer holistic solutions to the healthcare sector. We are leaders in the traditional form of medicine like ayurveda, unani, homeopathy and others. India is also ahead in the genetic sciences, which has powers to reverse life threatening and chronic diseases. We will be showcasing the advances made by the country in all these fields to the visitors. We have already given therapies like yoga to the world,” Vairagade said.
Emphasizing that Nagpur’s development would get a big boost during the G20 meeting, Vairagade said the city would be on the global map soon. “Not only the city, but research in various sectors would also be presented before the thousands of delegates. The focus would be on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’a call on ‘heal in India’ where the patients would be arriving in the city from across the globe,” he said.
