PARENTS have been warned that a popular plane hack could prove to be dangerous for their kids.
Experts have even called for this common trick to be banned for safety reasons.
Parents with children under two years old are typically able to fly without getting a seat for them.
This means flyers have to hold their children and keep them on their lap throughout a flight.
Parents therefore have been able to save money as they do not have to pay for a ticket or seat for their babies.
Despite this, experts have urged people to reconsider this practice.
Travel specialists have shared some of the dangers that parents could unexpectedly be putting their children at risk of, according to USA Today.
Turbulence could prove to be dangerous for a child on their parent’s lap.
The president of the Association of Flight Attendants, Sara Nelson, explained why this could be unexpectedly threatening.
She said that during heavy turbulence “there’s no possible way that even the most loving arms could hold that baby”.
Even the American Federal Aviation Authority recommends that children and babies fly in their own seats.
An alternative for parents could be to put kids in their own chair or use a car seat if their child is too small.
Nelson also warned parents that they should still book a chair for their child even if they are going to keep them in a carrier.
Airlines have typically allowed parents to use an empty seat on a plane for the kids.
Nelson however explained that as flights are constantly getting fuller, passengers should guarantee they have enough space for their little ones.
She said: “If you have that seat for your child, you’re going to have more space to work with, with all of the tons of things you need to travel with that child.”

Another travel expert has advised parents on where the best place for them to sit on a plane is, The Sun has previously reported.
The seats near the wings could be the best area for young flyers.
A flying specialist explained that this part of the aircraft experiences the least turbulence.
Window seats are also great for children as they can keep themselves entertained by looking outside.
