North Oconee High School and University of Georgia alumna Caitlin Farmer has rejoined The Oconee Enterprise in a new role of community engagement director.
Farmer, who previously served as a reporter for The Enterprise from January 2023 through May 2024, will work alongside Co-Publisher Amanda Prochaska and Marketing Director Avery Moon in marketing, advertising, operations, customer service and connecting with business owners, community leaders and citizens.
When she’s not in the office, Farmer will represent The Oconee Enterprise in the community by attending ribbon cuttings, networking events and other local celebrations.
“Oconee County is special because of the people within it,” said Farmer. “The people are friendly, kind and always looking out for one another and always willing to lend a helping hand. Every person has a unique skill, story and history that they pour into the county through their work, social activities and involvements. Of all the places I’ve been, there is no sense of community stronger than the one I feel when in Oconee County.”
As Oconee’s main news source, The Oconee Enterprise strives to report and produce a wide range of stories each week covering many aspects of life, but it also connects people with local leaders, said Farmer.
“It provides people a place to learn about their neighbors, local government and the wider community that they can’t get elsewhere,” she said. “As the community engagement director, I have a plethora of ideas I’d like to implement, such as developing stronger relationships and partnerships with local businesses, clubs and nonprofits; growing the podcast (currently on hiatus but expected to make a return); facilitating more community events and giving subscribers more opportunities to get involved with The Oconee Enterprise.”
Farmer and her family moved to Watkinsville in 2016 from Milton, Georgia. She graduated from North Oconee High School in 2018 and the University of Georgia in 2022.
“I had a lot of topics I wanted to study in school, so I ended up majoring in journalism and minoring in criminal justice and human services,” said Farmer.
“I love listening to music and have been to over 100 concerts with plans to attend many, many more in the future,” she said. “I am passionate about rescuing animals and have a pug that is almost 16 years old that my family rescued when she was about 1 year old. I also have a 6-year-old Chihuahua-mix that I adopted as a puppy from Athens Area Humane Society.”
Farmer said her dream is to one day have a dog sanctuary to give senior dogs who end up in shelters the best home for the rest of their lives.
“In my free time,” she said, “I enjoy cheering on the Dawgs in all sports, spending time with my friends and family, walking my dogs, going to antique and thrift stores and watching documentaries on any subject.”
