This Ford GT90 Render Model Should Be A Video Game Superstar … – HotCars


HotCars digital artist Rostislav Prokop dares to bring back one of the most iconic Ford supercars ever: the GT90. It was a concept car, and a drivable one at that, one that looked unlike anything else in 1995.


The GT90 was a spiritual successor to the GT40, based on Ford’s then-new New Edge design philosophy, a styling theme that included lots of angular geometric shapes. Sure, in 1995 when the concept got revealed, the McLaren F1 was already in production, but the Bugatti Veyron was 10 years away.

With a monster engine, Veyron-rivalling performance and that style, the Ford GT90 was a spaceship full of potential and optimism for the 21st century. The new render shows how the next GT90 could look with a little modernization to bring it up to date and shake its aging 90s image.

The Ford GT40 was first raced 29 years before the GT90 got introduced at the Detroit Auto Show, and now, nearly 29 years on, this render showcases the 90s Gran Turismo icon in modern attire.

As the rounded body and New Edge details on the GT90 are a little dated, Rostislav pulls back the sheets on a longer, wider, more refined-looking modern supercar. For those who remember the GT90, it is still unmistakably like the one-off concept.

That car’s front end is lower and flatter, the nose longer and more pointed, with the same iconic headlights that are now white LEDs. An open grille and rearward facing ducts on the hood with the pointed ‘V’ detail are also still visible. Bigger changes await, though, such as the conventional side mirrors that replace the cartoonish original ones. The wheels on the side are aquamarine alloys, that replace the GT90’s midnight blue, ‘spinner cap’ rims. A black front lip and side skirts with new ducts add some modern flair.

Those memorable rear quarter intake ducts are now aerodynamic features, passing air rearwards to the back and over the wing. The rear is also long and sloping, more like a McLaren Speedtail and less like the original car’s stubby rear end.

How Much Is The Ford GT90?

Angular geometric shapes return for the iconic center exhaust stack which has a new design, and the rear spoiler now sits atop the center pyramid that houses the exhausts rather than sitting flush.

The rear is also heavily inspired by the modern Ford GT, with a diffuser and new round lights, as well as the design of the engine cover and window.

In the original supercar, a quad-turbocharged, 5.9-liter V12 provided about 720 hp. It was fundamentally a heavily-modified variant of the 4.6-liter, modular Ford V8. Power went to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission and the GT90 could go on to a theoretical top speed of 253 mph.

Ten years before the Bugatti Veyron, the Ford GT90 already had immense top speed potential. Ford already worked out that 4 turbochargers bolted onto a double overhead camshaft, 48-valve aluminum engine would bring results.

Nowadays, the car is at Oklahoma’s Hajek Motorsports Museum and is not for sale. A modern version like this would surely sell well. As the original GT hero was the GT40, and the 90s concept was the GT90, we could call this the GT203 (the same numerical percentage increase).

In place of the aging 5.9-liter V12, a hybrid powertrain would be likely to inhabit this retro fusion of 90s vision and modern efficiency. We hope the new Ford GT90 keeps the blue interior which was one of the most memorable parts of the original supercar’s personality.
