Top of the Ticker: Andrea Mitchell said and emotional goodbye—and happy hello—to her longtime producer Michelle Perry on Friday. The Andrea Mitchell Reports host revealed that Perry has been promoted to a larger role at NBC News and its multiple networks. “She’s become one of the most beloved and respected colleagues in our Washington bureau, in our network and more broadly in our entire profession,” Mitchell said on-air, emphasizing that she’ll continue to collaborate with Perry in her new role. “She won’t be in my ear every day as we bring you this program, [but] she’ll be even closer. She is in my heart and in my mind forever.” Speaking with TVNewser in 2022, Perry made it clear those feelings were mutual. “Anything I’ve learned in this business has come from Andrea certainly,” she said at the time. “As legendary a reporter Andrea is, she’s an even greater human being.”
NewsNation Presents: NewsNation announced a pair of new documentaries this week. First up is the three-year anniversary special for Missing—the network’s ongoing series of true crime specials. Premiering Sept. 28 at 9 p.m. ET and anchored by Marni Hughes, the one hour program will look back at some of the most engrossing unsolved mysteries the show has covered in its young history. Meanwhile, Nov. 3 brings the premiere of Clinton: Portrait of a Presidency, a two-hour account of the 42nd president’s eventful administration narrated by Blair Underwood. The film airs at 8 p.m. and will be simulcast on The CW.
Up the Academy: NBCU Academy popped up at Chicago’s Columbia College on Wednesday for the bi-annual Next Level Summit. MSNBC president Rashida Jones, correspondent Brian Cheung, and NBCUniversal News Group evp of DEI Yvette Miley were among those in attendance to provide students with some hands-on news training. AI was the subject of the day at this particular edition, with the next generation of journalists learning what it would mean for their future in the field.
Awards Watch: The 45th Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards were handed out earlier this week. In addition to Jane Pauley‘s Lifetime Achievement honor, statues also went to World News Tonight with David Muir for Outstanding Live News Program, while CNN’s coverage of the Israel-Hamas War won Outstanding Breaking News Coverage, and PBS scored in the Outstanding Politics and Government Documentary category for its Frontline doc about Clarence and Ginni Thomas.
In other awards news, Fox News’ Harris Faulkner was honored by the She Leads America organization on Thursday, joining the group’s 2024 list of Christian Women of Distinction. The Outnumbered host also received a Certificate of Congressional Recognition at the event.
