Icon Status: Andrea Mitchell was honored at the Gracies Leadership Awards luncheon on Tuesday. The outgoing MSNBC host and NBC News chief Washington correspondent and chief foreign affairs correspondent received the Gracies Icon Award at the event, hosted by the Alliance for Women in Media and attended by Mitchell’s colleagues, including NBC News editorial president Rebecca Blumenstein, MSNBC president Rashida Jones, and NBC Night News anchor Lester Holt. In accepting the award, Mitchell spoke about the importance of combatting misinformation, saying: “You have to check your facts… It’s not important to be first, it’s more important to be accurate.”
In other awards news, Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts was honored with the 2024 Poynter Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Journalism from the Poynter Institute last weekend. “Few journalists connect so genuinely with their audiences the way that Robin Roberts does,” said Poynter president Neil Brown said in a statement. Roberts joins a list of honorees that includes Anderson Cooper, Chris Wallace, and Katie Couric.
