Tiny English campsite by the beach that’s a ‘little Switzerland’ with huge cliffs and sea views

A CAMPSITE right by the beach is being compared to the Swiss Alps – and not just because of it’s name.

Little Switzerland Caravan Site is found in the trendy town of Folkestone.

Built on a former World War II base, the campsite is surrounded by lush green cliffs – where the comparison to Switzerland comes from.

Not only that, but its a short walk to the beach with sea views of the English Channel as well.

One of the most raved about parts of the campsite is the cafe, which has uninterrupted views of the coast.

Thankfully there is also a toilet and shower block onsite.

And previous campers have raved about the Switzerland-like campsite.

One former guest wrote: “The cafe here is super lovely with unrivalled views.

“I totally understand why they call it little Switzerland!”

Another said: “It genuinely looks like Switzerland! The views are INCREDIBLE!”

Others called it a “hidden gem” while others raved about the “vintage charm” of the site.

A third simply wrote: “If you want a peaceful campsite with unbelievable views […] this is the place for you.”

Whilst it is called a caravan park, there is also space for tents to pitch up as well.

Prices start from around £10 each a night.

The campsite is right next to The Warren, named one of the “most beautiful places in the world”.

A local website said: “It’s a secret wilderness, hidden by forested walks which open to truly the most beautiful of coastal views.”

Little Switzerland Caravan Site is also a great spot if you are heading to France, being a short drive from the Eurotunnel with Calais just 35 minutes away.

Or you can explore the rest of Folkestone, which you can walk to from the campsite.

The Kent seaside town was named the best place to live in the South East earlier this year.

We chatted to locals about some of the best places to eat and drink, as well as what to do and were to stay.

Three camping tips from an expert

David Scotland owns camping equipment retailer Outdoor World Direct and knows all about how to make a camping trip run smoothly.

When visiting any campsite this summer it’s important to make sure you’re not making simple mistakes that could ruin your holiday.

Check your tent

David recommends putting your tent up a couple of weeks before you’re due to travel to give you enough time to repair or replace any damaged parts.

He told Sun Online Travel: “You’d be surprised how many people turn up with broken tents.”

Test the ground

Picking a good spot to pitch your tent is difficult, with lots of things to consider.

One of those should be the condition of the ground you’re putting your tent on top of, according to David.

He said: “Once you’ve found the perfect spot, test the ground with your pegs before you commit to camping there to make sure the ground is soft enough.”

Don’t nap in your tent

It may seem the perfect place for it, but a nap in a tent could end badly, if it’s done at the wrong time of the day.

David explained: “If the sun’s shining and it’s hot inside your tent – don’t do it!

“One of our friends nodded off in his tent during a heatwave at Glastonbury and ended up at the medical tent with heatstroke.”

Instead, he recommends finding some shade outside or somewhere well ventilated.
