
Vice-chancellor of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, Professor Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhaiya, at a discussion in Chattogram on Thursday said that the use of science and technology was essential to build a country beautifully and meaningfully.
‘It is because of mathematics that technology has been able to advance so far today. It is because of mathematics that we can know the past history today,’ he said while speaking as chief guest at the discussion of the International Mathematics Day-2025.
Mentioning that if mathematics does not advance, science and technology will not advance, he said, ‘To keep pace with the 4th industrial revolution, one must be interested in mathematics.’
Organised by the CUET mathematics department at the Simulation Lab of the department, dean of the faculty of science and technology, Professor AH Rashedul Hossain was present as special guest at the event.
Presided over by head of the department of mathematics, Professor Mohammad Shah Alam, moderator of the CUET Math Club Professor Ujjwal Kumar Deb delivered welcome address at the event, which was moderated by assistant professor of the department of mathematics Selim Hossain.
On the occasion of Pi Day, a presentation titled The Arts of Pi Day was presented by PhD student Rajib Karmakar.
Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhaiya presented the awards to the winners of the poster exhibition and quiz competition organised on the occasion of International Mathematics Day.
The Best Poster Award was received by Chaiti Debi Piya, an MSc student of the department of mathematics, while in the Pi Day quiz competition, Nahid Hasan, a student of the CSE department, won first place, Abrar Ahnaf Karim, a student of the EEE department, won second place, and Palash Chandra Deb, a student of the mechanical Engineering department, won third place.
