Video Game Series Shinobi Lands Live-Action FilmShinobi’s back!

The long-running ninja video game series which started life in 1987 is getting the Hollywood treatment, reports Deadline. The film will be directed by Sam Hargrave, who’s best known for helming the first two Extraction films.

The screenplay is being penned by Ken Kobayashi, who wrote the Japan-set series Sunny. The film is produced by Marc Platt and Adam Siegel at Marc Platt Productions, Dmitri M. Johnson through Story Kitchen and Toru Nakahara at Sega.

It’s being made over at Universal, who also produced the box office smash The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

The first Shinobi, a hack-and-slasher about ninja Joe Musashi, hit arcades in 1987 and hit several consoles including Sega’s Master System thereafter. The most recent game was released in 2011, and a new game was announced in late 2023.
