‘I wanted to design a new form of pet table that hadn’t existed before,’ Japanese designer Yongsik Kim tells designboom. Created for our furry friends, namely dogs, the Como Pet Table addresses the drawbacks of commonly used materials such as steel, wood, and plastic with its 100% silicone composition. Kim discovered the potential of silicone when looking at baby dishes, which are widely manufactured from this material — and for good reason: Silicone does not produce harmful substances or environmental hormones. It does not make noise when it comes into contact with bowls and has an appropriate weight, so it does not shake or shift during meals.

the benefits of silicone: healthy, safe, noiseless, and durable
Here is a more elaborate list of advantages of using silicone as a material for the Como Pet Table. Pet tables need strong durability as they are frequently exposed to water. Metal corrodes, and wood rots. Silicone boasts exceptional durability and is particularly capable of withstanding heat sterilization. Therefore, it can be used more hygienically than other materials. It has weight, and its material does not slip on the floor. Even with friction from ceramic dishes, it doesn’t produce noise, ensuring any surprises during your pet’s mealtime. ‘The design approach varies depending on the properties of each material. To create a table with silicone, I had to design it in a massive form. Additionally, I rounded off the edges to better express the soft feel of silicone. The Como pet table undoubtedly overcomes the drawbacks of existing products and is a very good product with distinctive design characteristics,’ concludes Yongsik Kim (see more here).
